🧼 How to Wash a Paracord Dog Collar or Lead

(Hand wash only – do not machine wash)

Paracord collars and leads are durable, but the whipping detail and decorative elements can loosen or fray in a washing machine. Hand washing is always recommended.

What You’ll Need:

  • A bowl or sink

  • Warm water (not hot)

  • Mild dish soap or gentle hand soap

  • Soft brush or old toothbrush

  • Clean towel

  • Drying rack or flat surface

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1️⃣ Remove Hardware Attachments (If Possible)

If your collar or lead has removable tags or charms, take them off before washing.

2️⃣ Prepare Warm Soapy Water

Fill a bowl or sink with warm water and add a small amount of mild soap.
Mix until slightly sudsy.

Avoid harsh detergents or bleach, as these can weaken fibres.

3️⃣ Soak

Submerge the collar or lead in the soapy water and allow it to soak for 10–15 minutes.
This helps loosen dirt, oils, and debris trapped in the weave.

4️⃣ Gently Scrub

Using a soft brush or toothbrush, gently scrub:

  • High-contact areas

  • Between woven sections

  • Around buckles and clips

  • Near whipping detail (be gentle here)

Avoid pulling or stretching the cord.

5️⃣ Rinse Thoroughly

Rinse under clean, warm running water until all soap residue is removed.
Soap left behind can make the fibres stiff once dry.

6️⃣ Remove Excess Water

Gently press the collar or lead between your hands or inside a towel to absorb excess water.

Do not wring or twist, as this can distort the weave.

7️⃣ Air Dry Properly

Lay flat on a clean towel or hang in a well-ventilated area.

  • Keep away from direct heat sources (radiators, tumble dryers)

  • Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which may fade colours

  • Allow to dry completely before use (usually 24 hours)

⚠️ Important:
We do not recommend placing paracord collars or leads in the washing machine due to the whipping detailing and woven construction, which can loosen, fray, or become damaged.
